Just as everyone else has said, County Check Services sent out a letter threatening legal action. When I called, I spoke with Ericka Johnson, and when I asked to set up a payment plan, she proceeded to tell me that they would turn my case over to the Whatcom County Procesecutor's office if I did not pay in full or make larger payments and they would proceed with pressing charges. Needless to say, I was intimidated, and I crumbled to their bullying and threats. I gave them my bank information and they were to take payment out on the 23rd. The first phone call was on the 2nd. I never received anymore information for the debt, as they said they would send it in the mail, and I never got any return phone calls when I tried calling back. I just didn't feel right about it all so I did my homework. I am no stranger to collection agencies, as I have been repairing my credit over the last two years, but I have never had any of them treat me like this when I was willing to send a payment even if it was small. I checked my credit report and there is no debt from either Advance America or County Check Services and I went to my bank and told them about the situation. They recomended that I close my account and showed me this website. Also, encouraged me to report them to the FTC. I spoke with a lawyer friend as well, and she sent me to a sight that was very informative about my rights and after all of this, it is clear that they are a major scam! So this morning when "Miss Johnson" called and woke me up at 7am to let me know my payment was declined. I informed her, I knew that it was and it was illegal for them to harass and threaten me and to not call me again. We'll see if they do or not.
