Burlington River Apartments Company Buys out Government Subsidized Apartment Complex in West Burlington, Iowa, Fires Employees, Evicts Tenants for Pets even though Tenants Have Pet Deposit with Former Owners. T&L Cannot Find Te

T&L Properties out of Granger Iowa purchased an apartment complex, Burlington River Apartments in West Burlington, Iowa, in January. The year to year lease was changed to month to month lease. On August 10, they had the on site maintenance/manager inspect properties which followed with at least 20 threats of evictions for prior renters from the old property management which states you are allowed to have one pet with a pet deposit. One individual asked about her pet deposit on file and T&L Properties "could not find the pet deposit."

Pet deposits are to be put in an escrow account and not to be handled with until after the tenant moves out. When a company comes in and buys out a rental from a year to year lease and changes it to a month to month lease, the new company must "grandfather" the lease incorporated by the former owner to the tenants currently living there before the buyout. T&L has given single, elderly individuals threats of evictions that have lived there before the company buy out, that had been approved to have pets live with them.

These elderly people have been put through so much stress and anxiety through the past couple of days thinking they either have to move or give up the comforting pet. T&L Properties is heartless and uncaring when it comes to their rentors. If you live in one of their apartments, you live in their money-hungry business. I would not recommend Burlington River Apartments to anyone who is looking to rent. Especially if they are on Section 8. It used to be the best low-income based apartment complex to rent from in West Burlington, but T&L has made it hard for the elderly, single mothers, and other struggling individuals to continue living at Burlington River Apartments.

This is not a family-friendly apartment complex. After new on-site management/maintenance was taken over, things have not been replaced/repaired in a timely manner. We dearly miss our former "maintenance man" Mel, but he was forced to retire when they asked him to leave. T&L Properties is NOT a good place to rent from. If you are only looking to stay here for one to two months, maybe, but that is where they earn their money - with a high turn around by renting month to month by evicting people and taking their deposits. Know your rights before signing any agreements with them!
