I used PODS portable storage moving company for a move I made from the Mid-South to the Northeast. On the front end, PODS will tell you anything to get your business. They ask you questions like do you have a piano, any large items, how many bedrooms, etc. Then they assure you that you can fit your items into a 16 foot container - "you won't have any problem." Once you actually get the container and the packing begins, it is apparent that all of your items will not fit into a 16 foot container, unless you are moving items from an apartment. At this point, you are stuck with PODS as your mover - since one of the PODS is already packed with your possessions and it's too late to hire another moving company or unload the POD and start over. What began as approximately a $2,000 storage quote, turned into twice that amount as a result of costs for an extra storage container, additional storage fees, and extra fees for movers to unload an additional storage container. After numerous attempts to resolve this issue, the PODS customer service representatives canned response is - -"they didn't know how much stuff you had and can't predict how many containers you will need." This same scenario happens over and over to countless customers. The PODS sellers on the front end don’t understand the fact that customers are not professional movers - or more likely, their common business practice is to get you to agree to use their company by giving you a quote that they know will grow once you start moving. The PODS consultant refuses to suggest that professional movers validate their recommendation/quote for a 16' POD - they prefer to wait until you are in the middle of your move to find out that one 16' container isn't enough to hold your possessions when moving from a 2,400 square foot home - which by the way is the one question PODS failed to ask - what is the square footage of your home? Rather than being honest up front and choosing PODS because they may be your best option, you are lured in dishonestly and then you end up being stuck with PODS for your move - deeper in debt and extremely frustrated. Moving is stressful enough - - using PODS for my move made my experience a nightmare. Beware of pods.
