I received a phone call from Global Living and told that my 2 month trial subscription for TV Guide magazine was expiring and that if I wanted the contract closed I had to verify my checking account information. They gave me the bank routing number from my check but said that, for security reasons, they could not repeat my remaining account numbers over the phone. They asked me to verify the numbers back to them. Like an idiot, I did, and asked if they would be drafting any money from the account now that the account was closed. They assured me that no drafts would ever be taken from my account.
The caller then transfered me to a "supervisor" who informed me that he woud have to make a 30 second recording verifying all information that they had and that I should "clearly" say "yes" at the end. He then spoke so fast that most of what was said was ininteligible. But I had to say "Yes" regardless. I refused to do so and he said that he had to do it again and that all I had to listen for was my check acount numbers, and then say "Yes."
In all of this fast rcording I heard, "$39.95,60 months, not subject to cancellation." I questioned the last statement and he said that he stated "was subject to cancellation." Again, he assured me that no money would be taken from my checking account. I asked the girl I was speaking to for her name and a phone number that I could call back to verify the legitimacy of this call. She gave me an 800 number and even her extention number. I called it when we had finished talking and got a recorded message from a "Talk to the world" contact srvice. Feeling very uneasy about this, I immediately put a block on my checking account and on the following day closed my checkng acount and opened a new one.
Two days later my bank called me to ask if I had authorized a draft from my former checking account for $39.95 from Honey Bee Media. I said no, that it was likely that Global Living was attempting to take money from the account. She replied back to them that the account was closed and payment was denied.
A week later I recieved a call from the same guy that I talked to previously from Global Living telling me that there was a problem with the information that I had given him and that they were not able to close my account with them. I informed them that I had seen internet reports of their fraudulent practices and that they had, in fact, attempted to take money from my bank under the name of Honey Bee Media. He denied any connection to them and asked me again to verify my checking account info. I told him that my bank account was closed and to stop calling.
Five minutes later another man from Global Living called and insisted that I verify my bank info so that they could close the account. I asked what magazine I had suposedly subscribed to. He said, "Time Magazine." I informed him that the previous week they had said "TV Guide" and that I had never contracted with them for anything and wanted them to leave me alone. He said, "If you didn't make this contract, how is it that we have all of your information?" I told him that I had been an idiot and gave it to him over the phone, at which point I told him again that my back account was closed and that should affectively close my dealings with Global Living.
Two days later I received another call from Global Living attempting, yet again, to get me to verify my accunt inf so that they could close my acount with them. I told the man that if they had "all of my information" that they had enough from me to close the account. I also insisted that they stop calling me and I then hung up the phone.
They must be making a consideable amount of money to expend this much effort and the cost of long distance calls to try to continue to scam me. Don't make the mistake I made and give your account information or credit card numbers to anyone like this over the phone.
