D & L Guns
Poor Customer Service

My husband and I had talked about buying a rifle, for our family's protection. We visited D & L Guns in Warwick, RI which is near our house. Not knowing anything about how to purchase a gun, getting your blue cards, carrying a gun we relied totally up the salesperson to give us the information that we needed. Being who I am, I asked many, many questions and felt satisfied at that point. We decided to purchase a gun that day, with the necessary equipment that goes along with purchasing one. We had to have an attachment put on the gun so we had to wait for the part to come in. The salesperson told us that it would only take a few minutes to put the part on. Three weeks later, we hadn't heard anything from them about the part so my husband stopped in to see if it was in. They told him that they were 'just going to call him' and let him know' it was in. My husband told them that the salesperson said that he would put the attachment on for us. Since he wasn't there, the clerk told us he would send it out to have that done. When my husband went to pick up the gun, they charged us for putting on the attachment! We went back to the store on 5/5 to ask about this. We talked to the person who sold us the gun and he said that he wasn't able to put the part on because he had been busy so they sent it to a gunsmith to do the work, and that's why we were charged. We told them that we had no knowledge of a fee for that work. At that point, the owner, Al, stepped in. He had to be one of the rudest people I have ever dealt with in my life. He was very condescending, telling us that of course any work that is sent out has to be charged. "What about when you take you car in for repairs? You are charged for that, right?", he said. I told him that when you have a car you know this. But, when you are buying something for the first time, you don't know those procedures. Due to the lack of communication from the salesperson, we weren't told that if the gun had to go to a gunsmith, there was a charge for this. How would we know that? It was our first time buying a shotgun! He knew that because he's suppose to know those things and TELL the customer that. I told him that I wanted to return the gun. Then he got even more rude and said that he would have to take it back as a used gun (we just picked it up the other day, duh?), restocking fee and another fee to have the gun checked OR a store credit towards another gun. He then said that he could refund some of the work done by the gunsmith, which came to $70.00. He said that the gunsmith charged $55.00 for the work. GET THIS! The owner then had charged us $15.00 for nothing! He makes money on sending items out to be worked on and he does NOTHING to the items. Absolutely NOTHING! He only cares about making money. That was obvious. We asked that maybe they think about explaining ALL these little things that they know to new customer because they don't know. Again, he got very condescending and said that 'his son (who sold us the gun) spends lots of time with his customers (which he did) and that's just the way it is. At that point, I told the owner to give us the $15.00 and we will NEVER shop there again (and we had planned on purchasing a hand gun). It's suppose to be about good customer service and that means, just that. Not with him. It's all about the money. That's obvious when he was making $15.00 on someone else's work! Greed. Think about twice, my friends, before shopping at this store.
