I was watching a movie with my daughter when all of a sudden the doorbell rings. My daughter got it for me. She said there was a young lady at the door welcoming herself to the neighborhood. I went to the door and saw a 21 year old Phillipino girl named Vannessa (can't remember her last name... Started with a M... Very unusual name that meant God sent or something). She began to tell me that she was trying to win points and was very shy to do public speaking so this organization was having her to go door to door to build her confidence. If she accumulated enough points she would win a trip to Paris. She told me that the girls were in the lead and seemed very excited. She asked me to buy some magazines as a sponsorship. I agreed but didn't have cash or check on me. I took her with me to the ATM and got her cash (after her persistence). She gave me a $15 discount on shipping and handling since my daughter was in school. She shared information with me about college grants etc. She seemed like a very nice young lady. She even wrote on a little sticky and put it on my door so that the other competitors would know that she had already got my sponsorship. I never participate in these kind of things but felt compelled to help her in her endeavour. Later I saw her at my brother's house, who wrote her a $55 check for the same effort. My neighbor stepped outside and told me that her husband said it was a scam. Something told me to get my money back from the young lady but I wanted to believe she was legit. Finally, about 20 minutes later, I looked the company up on-line and found this shocking information. I am very grieved. I am a single mother with 3 children and am in no position to lose $40. If any knows what recourse I can take in getting my money back, I am totally open for suggestions. I feel like an idiot. Not to add she was in my home and got my daughter's first and last name, saw where my son works and saw where I bank at. I let her ride in my car! I know God did not give us a spirit of fear but of love and of power and of a sound mind. But this has stirred me up. I can't even sleep. I pray for the safety of the many families that let these young people into their homes around their children like I did. I also pray that God will intervene in this situation and justice will be served.
