I received a telephone call on the afternoon of 10 April from a company that indentified themselves as a division of microsoft. It was a female by the name of Michelle Edwards (spoke with a heavy Indian accent) who said that they had identified 70 computers in the area that were infected by a problem with the security systems on the computers and that she could assist me with sorting this problem. I am not a computer fundy so cullable me had her walk me through many operations and to my horror I identified some 9700 errors on my computer. I started to panic - she then put me through to a technician by the name of Jasin Solin (also spoke with an Indian accent) who walked me through endless instructions on eradicating these errors. He then informed me that I would need to pay $419 for a support programme for 5 years to keep my computer safe - I protested but he pushed on and when I said I was concerned it was a scam he took me to the Visa payment page which he convinced my was protected by a secure gateway. Cut a long story short I paid the money and then my problems really began. I could not send emails. My on line banking facility was infected and I could not access internet. I have had to employ a computer analyst to sort my computer and pay his account too. A very expensive excercise!!
