PHONE SCAM& From Nogales Mexico 1-333 (749) 7805
Consumer Report

I received a call almost identical to that Delores received from Mexico on
1/27. From # 1-333 (749) 7805
The caller stated that he was my nephew calling from Nogales, Sonora, MX. He said, "you probably won't recognize my voice, I have had a bad cold." But I want
to stop by your home and drop you off a little gift. At this point I was thinking that this was in deed one of my many nephews. I told him he was welcome and gave him just general directions to our area of town. He thanked me and said that he was leaving Nogales and would be seeing me soon.
About 15 minutes later he called again and said that he had been stopped by Mexican border officials and they found a gun in the car. He said they were willing to accept a $ 1,500 bribe to let him go and could I help him by wiring
the money? I told him that I really didn't have that kind of money. One of the security or border guards spoke with me and said that my nephew was a nice guy and would release him for $400.00. He also stated that my nephew had a good size check on him, but could not cash it in Mexico. He said he would repay me with a little extra for my troubles. At this time, my husband and I suspected something not quite right about all this so I told him we would try and borrow the money. He said that they would call back in 10 minutes and give us the directions for wiring the $400.00.
All this sounded suspious so we tried calling our Nephew's and other relatives homes, but didn't receive any answers. My husband told me to ask the caller a couple of questions that only he and I would know the answers to. When They did call back I asked my supposedly nephew a question he should have readily known the answer to. He asked " Why do you ask me these questions?"
I told him that I wanted to help, but everything sounded a little suspious and wanted to verify that you are in deed my nephew. At that point the phone went dead. Zero money lost. Thank goodness for suspious minds!!!
