Beware of NBOB. They tout themselves as a private organization with the mission "To enhance the business environment of the business opportunity and franchise industry".
Sounds good but it isn't true.
The actual process is as follows:
1. Any company can sign up with them for a fee.
2. NBOB will then charge the company a fee for each call that they process for them.
It is obvious that the more calls they process, the more money NBOB makes. If they give bad press for the company, their income will go down.
They specifically screw the consumer by stating that "There are no unresponded to complaints for this company". Any uninformed caller will assume that the company has a clean bill of health and then do business with the franchise.
YOU MUST ask, specifically, for ANY complaints that have been filed against the franchise. The operator then will go to another computer screen and give you the information. YOU WILL NOT GET IT unless you know SPECIFICALLY to ask for it.
I fell into this trap. I was given NBOB and the BBB as references to use to verify the company was legit. Both gave me the "no unresponded to complaints" answer. So I feel the BBB is totally worthless also.in my later research I found that NBOB had 5 previous complaints that they didnt tell me about. The franchise response was "we didnt do anything wrong" so the complaint was responded to!
Had I been given this information when I asked for it, I would have saved myself $28000 and a whole lot of grief.
The FTC shut down the franchise in question and sued them for reparations. I got 4 cents on the dollar returned to me.
I am sueing NBOB and it is still in litigation.
Do not call them as they make money off your misery!
