A young lady I was working with was fostering a dog for this group. The dog never should have been placed with her to begin with, because she lives in a condo, and these dogs are working dogs, not house pets. They need lots of room to run, and they are notoriously known for being working dogs. As a rescue league for this breed, you would think they would know that.
When the dog became a problem, which was inevitable, they told my friend, that their was nothing they could do. It was her problem to deal with. So, my mother agreed to take the dog in for a while. She has a large back yard, and we thought the dog would be fine with her. She had a doggy door, so the do could go in and out voluntarily. Well, soon after she got the dog, about 2-3 days, the dog started eating the furniture.
We contacted the rescue league and they said that they would have one of their volunteers take her on Friday night but only after I had told them that the dog had to go, and that if they didn't take her I was going to take her to the Fairfax Counry Animal Shelter.
They then emailed me and told me that they couldn't take her until Saturday morning, when I had specifically told them that we would not be around Saturday. I made it clear that the dog had to go Friday night. She told me to call the volunteer who was taking her Friday night between 7pm-9pm. Because that's when she would be home. Well if she was home then. Why couldn't we drop the dog off?
So I waited most of the day Friday, and when I didn't hear from them, I emailed them again and told them that I was boarding the dog, (which in their words, was better than taking the dog to the shelter) and they could pick her up whenever they wanted at a cost of $19/a day. Only THEN did I hear from Faith (the rescue league president) about 10 minutes after I sent the email saying I would board her. She told me I could take the dog to a volunteer in Burke, VA.
They then called my friend and tried to make HER feel guilty about not keeping the dog.
These people have taken on more than they can handle. Do not FOSTER OR ADOPT from them. They will not help you if there is a problem. Even the County Animal Shelter will take the dog back if a problem occurs. They are completely unprofessional and don't seem to know anything about the dogs they are giving to people.
