I awoke this morning, checked my computer, and found that my Skype account had been charged $8.30 for a call to Michigan, resulting in Skype trying to access my credit card account to 'refresh' my account with more money. Fortunately, it was a closed credit card and their charge did not go through. I chatted online with a Skype representative "Jackie" who claimed my account must have been hacked and it was my responsibility. I further reported that it occured while my computer was shut down and while I was sleeping. I gave her the called number and asked if Skype would investigate, and she told me in so many words not to expect a Skype response. Case closed, and I am out the $8.30. I called the same fraudulent number, 231-613-0295 in Michigan, and it immediately went to a message which stated that: "I'm sorry but the person you called has a voice mailbox that has not been set up yet. Goodbye." I think Skype knows full-well what is going on... It is called planned account depletion... And it appears that it is most likely perpetrated by Skype or someone surreptitiously contracted by Skype. I think they need to be investigated.
