Protect my online ID - credit billing

My bank account was recently hacked into so I had to change the account info on all the online payments that I make. The Sears credit card was the only one that asked me for a complete SS# instead of the usual last four digits. I refuse to put my SS # online, especially in view of the recent hacking. So now I'm unable to make online payments on my Sears credit card. The customer service department told me there was no way around putting my full SS# online and that I would have to either pay by phone or by check or go to a Sears store. I often travel overseas so this is extremely inconvenient.
