I, like many others, was erroneously charged by NSS Magazine for magazines that I never received. I had signed up for a free trial, never imagining that I would be charged. Lo and behold I look at my most recent credit card statement and see a charge for $119 from NSS Magazine!
I called the 800 number that they provide, and the computer operator asks for a 6 digit reference number. My credit card statement only lists five numbers, so after several failed attempts with the operator I tried a different approach.
I kept silent three times in a row when asked for my reference number, and finally the computer let me look up my account via my credit card number. The operator was able to locate my account and I asked for an explanation of the charges. I wrote down which magazines it was for (which I never received!), and I was finally able to cancel everything after jumping through numerous hoops.
A word of caution, however, when you are trying to cancel: Once you say that you would like to cancel, the operator asks two questions about wanting to continue to receive your magazines that you've already paid for. Simply answer "no" to both of these and the operator will finally tell you that the magazine has been canceled and will give you a reference number and the amount that will be refunded.
They will only let you cancel one magazine at a time, so I had to do this part three separate times. They said I will be refunded in "one to two billing cycles". We shall have to see if this really occurs.
