I too was ripped off by American Values - The Amazing Washball!
In November a well spoken Caucasian man called my home with a free $500.00 gasoline offer, in which I initially declined. He convinced me to accept the offer after a few good sales lines. He told me that it would only cost $1.95 to send the package and that if I was not 100% satisfied that the $1.95 would be fully refunded.
I eventually agreed to try the offer, thinking to myself, it's only $1.95? I gave him my checking account number for the debit. Why? I DO NOT KNOW! Normally, I am smarter than this! Anyway, I did. Then, he made another offer, for an additional $1.95 for something called U-Talk. (I don't even recall what U-Talk is now)
I agreed to try that as well. Then came another offer for The Amazing Washball. I immediately said "NO" thinking enough already.
I received my bank statement in December with a debit for $79.95 from "Washball". I called my bank and to them that I did not authorize this. They gave me the 800 number that was on the debit. Of course, there was nothing the bank could do because I gave out my account number.
I immediately called American Values/U-Talk / and Washball to cancel. Washball assured me that they would cancel and send my refund check immediately. American Values and U-Talk never debited the $1.95
Since December, I have called the 800 number each week (the last time being 2-27-04) each time they tell me that the check has been processed and I should receive it by the following Wednesday or they will start an investigation to find out why I have not received my check.
Friday, I decided that I should go online to see if these people have a website to get more information. It took me straight to the RIP OFF Report. Where I find they have scammed others like me! What a shame! I feel sure that they are scamming someone as I write this! Something MUST be done! I guess I am one of the fortunate ones, they only scammed me out of $79.95.
ONE DAY they'll HAVE to answer for this!
