Misleading Resource for Renters

First of all the above date is approximate — I will have to find my paperwork for the exact date. When I was looking for an apartment to rent, I noticed an ad on Craigslist with their number to call. First of all, it was misleading because it looked as if they were the owners of the property advertising to rent. Upon calling Rent Source, I was told that they were an agency the exchanged names of Landlords and potential renters. They sounded as if they did some of the "leg work" in hooking up potential renters to appropriate landlords.

So, I decided to their location at 8832 Natural Bridge, St. Louis, Missouri 63121, and they sounded as if what I through was true. They stressed that Rent Source had direct contact with many property owners and they would recommend potential renters to them and provided renters with a list of properties not advertised on Craigslist, etc., in an area of the renter's choice. The paperwork did say that a one time $85.00 fee was mandatory but not refundable. However, in return they would assist in finding a property in a specified area until both parties were satisfied, and that these lists would be updated daily, and they would also assist and personally call you before listing publically properties in which you may be interested.

To make a long story short, upon receiving the debit charge, their attitude dramatically changed (as if another "sucker" has been taken). They provided a list with 41 properties mostly in areas that I specified stated that I was not interested. I was told to call their office early in the morning for more names and addresses. Gee—to think that these properties were also on Craigslist—anybody can press a button to print out these lists. Giving a client an inappropriate listing that does not cover his/her needs for $85 is ridiculous to say the least. The update was not much different.

The next day, I asked that Rent Source remove my name from their list and refund my money as soon as possible. They refused because they said that I signed a contract which stated the money was non-refundable.in America, we have fair trade, fair exchange, and a fair refund when services are not provided with satisfaction to the consumer. Bank of America did provide me with a temporary credit of $85 and filed a claim in my behalf; however, Rent Source refused to refund the money to them so they reversed the credit. Bank of America's Dispute Department in Customer Service are not lawyers and I believe they did their best. However, Rent Source is a difficult entity with which to deal. I am not satisfied with the end result and would like my $85 refunded to me. I rented from a private owner on Craigslist for a month and did not use their services in any way.

Thank you for your time.
