Motorola Inc. and Verizon
Problems

I purchased a Droid X phone approximately 8 months ago. Approximately one month ago my phones earpiece just stopped working. I can speak to people who call me on speaker phone only but cannot hear anything when I put the phone directly to my ear. As you can imagine, this is a rather inconvenient problem to have.

I brought the phone back to the Verizon store where I had originally purchased it in order to have this issue resolved or be issued a new phone since I was under the 1 year warranty protection. I was informed that a tiny strip of paper located behind the battery pack indicated slight water damage and this immediately voided the entire warranty. I assured the salesperson that I had never submerged the phone in water and, it was obvious that the phone had not been mishandled as there was no outward damage to the phone. My phone does not have a single scratch or crack on it and I have had a protective silicone cover on it since the day of purchase. I was told that a simple act like having the phone in the bathroom while taking a shower (something I have never done) could cause this kind of water damage. I find it extremely hard to believe that, in this day and age, Motorola would make such a delicate electronic product or that Verizon would carry such an inferior product.

I have been a Verizon customer in good standing with a family plan for almost 10 years and have purchased multiple Motorola-manufactured cell phones and accessories. It is completely disheartening that the one time I have asked for either company to stand-by a warranty and resolve an issue that I would be treated this way. Please be assured that I have no qualms about leaving Verizon and resurrecting my multiple line family plan with another company and never purchasing another Motorola product, especially after finding out that it puts out products that must be handled so delicately.

This is a very disheartening position to have been placed in and I'm sure your company[ies] did so inadvertently. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely, Naazneen Khan
