Verizon Wireless
Constantly tells customers phones have WATER DAMAGE Rome

I have 4 cell phones on a personal account. My husband has 7 cell phones on a business account.in the past 1-1/2 years 3 of these phones have been taken into our local Verizon store because they would not do one of the following: 1. Make calls. 2. Receive calls. 3. Receive a signal.

Each time we were told by the technician they would not attempt to repair our phones because they had "water damage". This was determined by removing the battery and looking at the small dot (indicator) on the back of the battery. If the battery is white - no water damage. If the battery is pink - water damage. My daughter dropped her cell phone Friday and took it into Verizon Saturday to be repaired. They would not repair it because it had "water damage". She told them she dropped it on the pavement, not into any water. They still refused to repair it. They offered her an option of purchasing a new phone for $149.99. Once she arrived home, we started checking all our Verizon phones and asking our friends, family and business associates to check theirs. Out of 23 phones checked, 21 of them had a pink dot on the battery - indicative of "water damage". Even my new phone that I've had since the middle of June '06 has a bright pink dot. This phone has been in a protective case since the day it was purchased and has never been in water, rain, etc.

My husband has talked to other business associates in a couple different states this morning and they also have pink dots on their batteries.

We carried insurance at one point and used it for one phone that was chewed up by a new puppy. We paid approximately $5.00 per month for the insurance for 11 month's (total of $55.00), we paid $50.00 deductible - Total of $105.00. The phone that was sent to us by Verizon's insurance company was a refurbished phone. At that time we dropped insurance because it didn't seem cost effective to pay this amount of money and receive an inferior product.

I know Verizon is in the business to make money - as we all are. However, they have a serious problem either with faulty indicatiors on the batteries of their phones, poor technicians, poor product, or maybe they are trying to force their customers into purchasing a new phone more frequently or to purchase their ineffective "insurance".
