Being a long haul truck driver, in Feb 07, I purchased a membership in Pre Paid Legal Services because I thought you never know when you might get a ticket somewhere.
In January of a month before my membership expired, I got a ticket for speeding 31 in a 25. I called Pre Paid, told them what happened and faxed them a copy of the ticket. About a week later I get a call from an attorney by the name of Cook. He says in what sounded like slurred speech, no problem it's a violation of the basic speed law, and I deal with those all the time.
2 or 3 weeks later, again in slurred speech he calls me and says "Good news, the Judge was feeling happy and I got the ticket dismissed, nothing to worry about" I then listened to him pat himself on the back and tell me how good he was.
Never heard a word from the court system or anyone else and I soon forgot all about it.
Went to DMV last week to renew my license and was told that I have an unpaid speeding ticket that needs to be taken care of before I can renew. I now owe $461.00 that I don't have before I can get my license renewed. I've been in contact with the court and the original fine would have been $76.00..
I'm no longer a member of Pre Paid (Didn't renew) and when I called they told me nothing they can do to help me, my membership is long expired and anyway they only provide quality, pre-screened Attorney's with impeccable records.
I know I should have done a follow up but sometimes you get busy making a living and trying to survive and you forget about things. Who Hasn't done that once or twice?
I have kids and the same bills most everybody else has and can't afford $461.00, what do I do?
