On 1/29/10, we entered into a contract with Rosann Janas, President and her husband Joe Janas d/b/a A&J Home Contractors for a screened-in porch to be erected at our home and gave a $4000. Deposit. The contract called for an approximate start date of one week and a completion date of March 1.
The architect's drawings were not delivered to us until April 3rd even though we repeatedly called for the status.
On May 3rd, 4th, and 5th, we requested permit status from A & J Home Contractors to no avail. All we were told was that the Township was holding up the plans. On May 5th, we went to the Zoning Board in Lakewood ourselves and was told there was never an application on file. On May 14th, we received notice from the Township of Lakewood Building Division that the permits which A & J subsequently applied for were rejected. Repeated attempts were made to settle this matter amicably to no avail.
On July 12 we filed a summons and complaint against A & J Home Contractors in the Superior Court of New Jersey Law Division, Special Civil Part, Small Claims Section for the demand of $3000. On July 28 we appeared in court and was mediated. A Stipulation of Settlement was ordered against the defendant (A & J Home Contractors) to pay the Plaintiffs on a monthly basis until the sum of $3000. Was paid in full. After 3 months of payments, the Defendant failed to make any further payments and is now in default.
With everything considered from the dealings we had with this company, we certainly would not recommend anyone to do business with A & J Home Contractors, Joe Janas, Rosann Janas or anyone associated with them. Be Aware!!
