While traveling southbound on the IL294 tollway at 9:00 pm on 7/30/10, a FedEx Ground truck tried to run me off the road. The truck came barreling up behind me so close that his headlights and grill were not visible in my rear window. The lanes on either side of me were wide open, but the truck kept coming closer and honking at me. I tried to speed up to allow enough room for me to safely move to another lane. Even at 70 mph he would not back off; the faster I went, the faster he went, getting even closer. At one point it felt like he had actually tapped my car.
I finally was able to move to the next lane and called the police. The truck then pulled up next to me, swerving in and out of my lane and flipping me off. He also appeared to be yelling at me, but I could not hear him inside my car. He then sped ahead and did the same to car after car as each one tried to get out of his way. He was going so fast that we lost sight of him in a few minutes. I do not know if the police ever caught up to him.
I called FedEx with the license plate # (IN) P143060, the truck #810008, and cab #115066, but FedEx told me that they do not take complaints. I went to their website when I got home, but they do not take complaints there either! Great way of doing business. No package is worth the life of an innocent driver who gets in their way! Behavior like this contributes to the public perception that all truck drivers are on drugs!
