Buyer Beware! - Desert-Gear Defective Boots Sent with No Full Refund

My husband was deployed to Iraq in March and prior to his delopment we ordered him a pair of Converse Sage Green boots for $96.00 with free shipping from Desert-Gear.com. When the boots arrived just prior to his deployment they had a hard plastic or metal piece that stuck into his ankle and he was not able to wear them since they were defective. He had to deploy to Iraq so he just took his government issued boots with him and I contacted Steve Hedmen from Desert-Gear to make him aware of the issue. Steve told me to return the boots for a full refund. I told Steve that I wanted to order him another pair of boots to have sent over to Iraq which I did. I then ordered a pair of Rockport Military boots to ensure that the Converse ones did not arrive in Iraq defective again in case their was a problem with that particular batch. I paid for the Rockport boots out of pocket again because I was in the process of shipping the defective Converse boots back. Once I received the delivery confirmation that Steve had received the defective Converse boots back it took 2 months and over a dozen phone calls and e-mail to try to get any credit back. Steve began accusing my husband of wearing the boots simply in my opinion because he didn't want to issue any type of credit. After many fights and being told I would receive a full refund for the defective boots I received a credit of $77.29. When I called to ask Steve where my $18.71 was he tried to tell me that he is not refunding the $96. Oo because of the cost of shipping. The defective boots were sent to me on a "Free Shipping" offer and the cost was $96.00 now all of a sudden Steve is saying that he is deducting $18.71 because that is what it cost to ship the defective boots to me. This is completely ridiculous. I was shipped a pair of defective boots and had to pay out of my own pocket to ship them back and now Steve expects me to pay his cost for shipping the defective boots to me in the first place. I also trusted that he would give me a "Full Refund" as he promised when I ordered another pair of boots which I paid for out of pocket for which were $92.00 Rockports. Buyers Beware of this company!
