Apparently this consumer vigilante is not the only victim since FRYS FOODS has been featured on local television more than once for the same rip-off.
All too often, as consumers have complained to Channel XYZ on your side, Frys will advertise discounts on items both in their tabloid sized ads they deliver in the mail and/or in in-store discount tags. Most people "think" they've selected a discounted item, but then at the cash register they pay the full retail price. A statistical majority of customers don't pay enough attention and simply grab their purchases and throw away the flimsy receipts the store gives them not knowing they've been deprived of money.
This writer became a vigilante when a large box of Cheerios was advertised on sale at $3.49 per box, but at the cash register they charged $7.49 (!!!). The "error" was caught immediately and the store's assistant manager had his all-too-telling a look on his face when he was caught. I chose to force their customer "service" desk to refund ALL the items purchased and walked out. Another time it was a fresh meat product, sale price was around $13 and the price charged was over $50 dollars. Caught again! The local TV stations were right to bring in their hidden TV cameras and catch FRYS in the act all to many times. Of course the spokes-people for Frys try to explain it away as being an error, but none of these errors were ever in the customer's favor. The TV reporters "shopped" FRYS and found, in one case, at least 13 such "errors" all favoring FRYS.
In Arizona, FRYS tries desparately to portray themselves as the "Low Price Leader" which they are not. They compare a hand-selected list of grocery items against Safeways, Bashas, Albertsons, etc. To make themselves look cheaper. But ask a FRYS manager just why they don't compare their prices vs. Wal Mart in their ads. They have no answer or are not allowed to comments.
Amazingly, I've seen groups (!) of FRYS employees, long-timers, doing their personal shopping at Wal-Mart, even wearing their FRYS uniformed shirts/aprons and name badges while shopping there. They are quick to explain, it's because of Wal Mart's pricing that they don't shop at FRYS.
In the case of the $3.49 discounted price on the Cheerios, at Wal Mart, their regular price was even less than FRYS' discounted prices which is usually the case.
Apparently the "errors" at FRYS are system-wide according to the televised reports in the Phoenix area. You'd think FRYS would learn their lesson since these TV reports have been aired repeatedly. Statistics are clearly on FRYS' side. These errors never favor the consumer, and FRYS pockets the difference.
Wal Mart is no angel either. They have another unique scam that will reported here soon.
Consumers must check everything especially your cashier receipt with a microscope before leaving frys. Better still, don't shop there.
