This is one of the most insidiously evil marketing scams out there! Hang up if they call you!
Betty Kaplan from International Marketing Group contacted me regarding the sale of my vacation property time share. Since I have it listed with a different company, and it hasn't sold, I didn't think it was unusual to hear from another company who might be interested in marketing it.
Betty assured me she had a buyer for the property as we spoke, and her company was in the business of financing buyer's purchases, but that a title search had to be done which would take 30 to 60 days. As soon as I received notice of clear title the property would change hands, and I would get the marketing fee of $2,838 back in addition to the purchase price of the property.
That amount of money up front sounded risky, but desperate to sell my vacation time share, I agreed. The next day the contract arrived via Federal Express, and although it states that IMG is a finance company, not a real estate company, I was assured by Betty after phoning her on this point, that her company was financing the buyer and they were not a real estate company, but that I didn't need a real estate company for this transaction because it was a vacation time share.
The money was paid on a credit card, and now I cannot reach anyone but an answering menu that directs me to leave a message. I've left several messages, but have not received a return call. I doubt that I will, but if I do, and they return my $2,838 I will write a retraction on this site.
