When I was recruited by Compass Bank in I was promised no hold on my deposits and that there would be a branch opening near me within 6 months. I have a medium sized company and have expenses that have to be paid as incurred. With this being said, a branch finally opened in Pearland, after having to drive all the way to Friendswood the past 3 years. I went to the new branch this past Tuesday to deposit a check from one of my customers that I have been doing business with for the past 10 years and have locations all over the United States and pay using a very familiar bank. After three years depositing a check from them at the Compass location in Friendswood without any holds whatsoever, I was told at this new location that they were going to put a 5 day hold on this particular deposit. I explained to them that this was never an issue before but if it was going to be a problem for this location, to give me back my deposit and allow me to go to my old location. The teller wouldn't give it back and told me that she would have her manager call the manager in friendswood. Well, the manager I knew in Friendswood had been replaced in January, so needless to say when the Pearland branch manager called the Friendswood manager, she told them to hold the deposit. Why??? I have deposited bigger amounts from this customer in the past with no question. And, all things being electronic these days, why 5 days. My charges get posted within 24 hours of cashing any check. Ok, no argument was going to change their minds. She did say however that if it cleared earlier that it would be posted accordingly. So, I checked my balance online on Wednesday morning, and there it was in the top section of my online page as a debit (and a hold code) then, it is still listed on the bottom of items already sent through to cross it out. This was at 8:30 am wednesday morning. At 11:30, I checked the online bank balance and waaalaaaa! The hold was not listed on the top section any more and the available balance had the deposit added in. Ofcourse, this made me very happy. I thought not so bad, right? So I went ahead and did some business pertinent to my operations and went home for the day. This morning, I opened my online banking and guess what I see? 6 insufficient funds charges. No idea why because I already had quite a sizable balance before I even tried to make the deposit. However, in pending there is a sizable charge from my business I had attended to. So this is what they did, they held my money and at the end of business charged me with the insufficient charges on 6 items instead of one on the big charge, then they posted my deposit... Maybe.in the past, when I have noticed my balance online and have tranferred funds from one Compass account to the other, the next day all charges had been reaaranged to show a negative balance because they donot post the deposits until after the charges are taken out although is was transferred before the closing deadline. I am at a loss as to what steps are to be taken. I know I have to find a Bank that doesn't try to gouge their customers. Can somebody help me with this issue?
