AT&T Early Termination Fee Ripoff

My My wife and I had a two-year contract with AT&T wirelessthat would expire soon. On February 3, we decided to move to another companyand port our phone numbers to the new company. The new company said thatto be able to port our phone numbers, we had to have service still available onthe phone numbers. Our contract expired on Feb. 8. We ported over ourphone numbers on that day. We are very studious people, so we made sure thatour AT&T bill was paid before we changed our service. On Feb. 12, wereceived an email saying that we owed a $175 termination fee not including thetaxes! We called their customer service department and the ladyrepresentative said that there was nothing she could do, since it was in thecontract. However, she thought the fee was unfair as well, especially since weonly had five days of service left! We couldn't believe it. We had been loyalcustomers of AT&T for four years and thought them a good company. Notanymore. Isn't it outrageous to charge a termination fee when we paid for thetwo years of service under the contract? Does AT&T really believe that this rule is fair at all? My wife and I have vowed never to dobusiness with AT&T again, and we are urging our family and friends to do likewise.
