Fraud!
I went on a Carnival cruise to Cozumel Mexico and went to one of the Carnival prefered shopping venues - Diamonds International. I went in and said I would like Akoya pearls or something comparable. Akoya are Japanese salt water pearls. They showed me a strand of pearls that I thought was salt water pearls. They said were Majorca and I would get them for $740. When I got home and looked at my receipt they charged me $820 and when I googled Majorca they were fake pearls. I had them appraised and they are actually Chinese fresh water pearls. Asking three different jewelers if they were comparable to an Akoya pearl all three said NO! Salt water pearls and fresh water pearls are not comparable and Diamonds International (DI) committed fraud. I have tried in vain to get DI to take the jewelry back. They have been very slow to respond to my calls which eat up the 30 days you have to resolve any issues after the date of purchase. I even called down to Cozumel to ask the manager of the store to be available for the DI representatives call. They refuse to take the jewelry back with a full refund. Only store credit, as if I would purchase any other good from this company but also, how often do people go to the Caribbean. This is a very corrupt company and furthermore, Carnival Cruise line is not helpful to the consumer since they get a kick back from DI. I have tried to call the Cruise lines consumer complaint department and they have yet to get back to me.
