The company that I dealt with at first was known as Citizens Reader Service of Shawnee Kansas back in 2006. The deal was to pay $29.95 for a 30 month term for 6 magazines a month which could supposedly be switched at any point. For a period of about 2 years (of a supposed 5 year term) this worked acceptably. Then the magazines I requested became "unavailable" and they started sending me questionable magazines or none at all.
When approached about cancelation they said it was a phone verbal contract and was binding. After 3 years of asking I was able to get them to cancel for a fee of 2 months of pay (which was increased to $114 now) and said I was done.
In the beginning of this month (January) I cancelled a newer account, which I was snookered into by their phone trixters called National Readers Service, also of Shawnee Kansas, although the bills say Treasure Coast of Fort meyers, Florida.
Now, the middle of January I was contacted again by National Reader Service in regards to being past-due. When I stated that I had cancelled (which I had been called about by 3 separate operators) they said I had a second account and that it would take $400 or 30% of the contract value to break the contract. I never agreed to a second contract and I was misled to agree to the prior as well. They posed it as being an "update" not a new deal. This company is out of control and needs to be reeled in.
There is a large section on facebook.com about it and I urge you to read it.
