After more than 3 years of perfect payment history, I was late for the first time. Amount - $29.00.
Wells Fargo has their collection dept.in Urbandale, Iowa. They started calling me at 8 AM sharp, then once or twice the same day. I asked one guy, "Dan", what his last name was, what number I could reach him at, and the name of his supervisor.
He said they don't give out last names, they had outgoing phones only, and that his supervisor "Chris" wasn't available.
After researching the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, I then told the next caller that a) Saturdays and Sundays were inconvenient for me, and b) that the repeated use of the phone to annoy me was harassment, per the Act Section 806 (5).
She said the Act did not apply to them and that they would continue to call me daily until I paid my $29.00.
I filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.
