Bad customer service, no item

Ordered a waffle iron from this company through Amazon online, and told it would arrive in 7-10 days. No iron. I did get an email from Todays Concept telling me it would be delayed because it was out of stock. Since this was a gift item, I called company to ask for an estimated arrival time. Receptionist was obnoxious because she could not find the order at first, then finally did, and told me delivery would be in 2 weeks, end of August at the latest. End of August, no iron. No email. Called Todays Concept again on Sept. 3 and was told, quite rudely, that the that the order had been canceled. I asked why and was told they didn't know. I asked why I hadn't been notified after all this time and was told it was Amazon's issue, not theirs. Called Amazon, who said that the order had been canceled because Todays Concept could not get item in stock. The day I called Amazon I got an email from Amazon telling me this item was unavailable from the vendor. I feel that I should have been called or emailed by Todays Concept weeks ago if they could not get the item within the time frame stated. Their customer service is sloppy and they sure aren't trying to keep their customers.
