In Nov 03 Amazon (not one of its merchants) advertised a VHS tape as being in stock & available.
Item is backordered.in Dec '03 tape is listed as available for Xmas. Item is backordered until January'04.
Jan '04 another delay. Item is backordered until February '04. Complain to customer service. Receive placate bribe of upgraded shipping. Item is backordered until Mar '04.
Mar '04 Item is delayed again. Receive placate bribe of a $5.00 gift certificate. Item is delayed again. Complained to customer service and demand to know when item will be shipped. They finally tell me their supplier can no longer obtain the item.
This is a strightforward case of false advertising. They didn't have it when I ordered it and had no intention of filling the order.
If you are going to do business with Amazon - beware. If it isn't in their stock system don't trust them like I did to deliver the goods. Their inventory control system is terrible.
Looking back, I find that the positive experiences I had from Amazon weren't with Amazon but the independent vendors who sell on Amazon.
