Financial Aid Deception

When I attended UCF in I had many deaths in my family and I lost a very good friend from 1999 through 2004 and at the very same time I was also extremely displaced from being forced to move numerous times due to originally moving into an extremely dangerous area with my children (did not know at the time of the original move it was very bad). Therefore, I was forced to move to protect myself and my children at that time. This caused a problem during two semesters that I had to withdraw from UCF. Prior to this I had earned over a 3.0 GPA and an AA degree.

When I returned in April to attend the Summer semester, I also had an AS degree in Paralegal Studies with over a 3.0 GPA. I was told by UCF that I was approved for readmission and that due to my semesters in 2003 I would be required to bring my GPA up to at least a 2.0 during the Summer semester and everything would be fine. This was due to two of the classes in the semesters never withdrew me. They gave me two F's.

I have completed the task of bringing up my GPA, as requested. I ended the Summer semester with two A's, a B and I am expecting at least a B in my fourth class. Yet, what is extremely shocking is that I noted about a month ago that UCF WAS STILL STATING I WAS NOT MEETING SATISFACTORY ACADEMIC PROGRESS for the Financial Aid office.

I called to obtain information from them numerous times to find out why they would post this because I have brought my GPA up just as they had requested.

I spoke to person after person who gave me numerous run around answers and I began to email to clarify my concerns. I could not get straight answers and became very irritated and frustrated with the Financial Aid office. Each time, I was never told what was going on and was NEVER asked to come in because they cannot discuss my financial aid status over the phone UNTIL TODAY!

I was told to fax an appeal and explain what happened in 2003. I did this, they lost it. I was told to fax it again. I did and they denied my appeal and TODAY for the VERY FIRST TIME I WAS FINALLY TOLD WHY THEY WERE DENYING ME.

Now, they have presented me with this new concept of a 70% rule and even though I qualified for financial aid with an EFC of 0 for 2010 and they authorized me to be readmitted, PAID FOR MY SUMMER 2009 TERM with Financial Aid and Student Loans AND NOW they are telling me that I am DENIED my Pell Grant and Student Loans.

Does it not seem a bit backward and fraudulent to play games like this, tease me with one semester and then basically let me know that I am no longer permitted to attend the next after I worked hard to pull A's and B's as they had asked me to do. Common sense is what use would it do me or UCF to attend one semester of time and money for naught? Seriously, why would I attend UCF in the first place? It is a waste of my time if I am to drop out the next semester due to their incompetence.

So, yes, I am considering legal options to regain what time, effort and money I have lost with them during this past semester due to their incompetence and I intend to report this to the proper authorities so this does not ever occur again with another student. This is so very draining.

Apparently, from what I have been researching, I am not the only one this has happened to. Yes, I am wondering if there is some form of Fraud or Discrimination or something going on. UCF needs to be held accountable for misinformation and incompetence with government funds.

Enough said, will post the outcome.
