On 8/07/08 I received documents from IRS stating I had reported incorrect income for tax year 2007. I was told by IRS that North Star Capital reported to them that I had settled a $3000 credit card debt with them in the amount of $1000.
This is false information and when I tried to contact them at three different numbers found on the web, I got nowhere. The first number, I was told I had the wrong company, the second number told me they were closed but I got a live person and the third was someone's voicemail, no company introduction.
IRS states I owe them $214 by Sept 2 and if payment is not received the interest starts growing. IRS did say that I could contact the company in order to prove that this is incorrect information but I am unable to speak with anyone but will begin trying again on Monday. It is late Friday 6:30 pm.
I would appreciate any assistance. I know that I am not the only victim.
