Barr-Nunn stole all income earned in two weeks

I left a decent job working day shift to be able to better support my family of 7. I found Barr-Nunn online, and they promised the world. Barr-Nunn hired me with 3 years experience behind me. I was given a bus ticket to Des Moines Iowa and put up in the Sleep Inn motel for the duration of orientation, which was two days.

Upon arrival for orientation, on the first day we started out with 5 guys.By the end of day two, final day of orientation there were only 2 left.
Barr-Nunn made us sign contracts stating if we did not complete six months of employment, we would have to return a $500.00 bonus initially given to cover pay for orientation.

So two weeks out in the truck and I receive a phone call offering a better trucking opportunity. Because my experience with Barr-Nunn was so unpleasant and any other driver I talked to ALL had their horror stories, I was excited to be given this opportunity to leave this horrible company.

Working two weeks I made less than $700.00 take home pay total. I spent most of my time in truck stops waiting for loads.

The day of my job offer I immeadiatly called my dispatcher and made them aware I accepted a job offer and I needed to return home immeadiatly. Dispatch said they would look for a load and get back to me. 4:00P.M. That day I get a call stating there aren't any loads to follow up with them the next morning. Nice game. They intentionally left me sitting. I got ahold of another dispatcher and told them I had given them 12 hours to find me a load, and they weren't paying me to sit in the truck stop waiting for one. I made it clear I had to get home, and that I was going to dead head back to the hiring terminal to return their equipment which is required in the employee handbook.

I was told I was not authorized to dead head back and besides paying back the $500.00 orientation pay, I had to pay fuel costs to dead head back $168.00, plus another $85.00 so they could clean out their truck and get it ready for another driver. Total to pay back about $765.00 more than I made in the two weeks working for them.

That night my wife met up with me and followed me back to the hiring terminal. I returned the truck and trailer and all other required equipment to the company as required by the company handbook. That evening upon arriving home 5:00pm on a Friday I receive a voice mail stating that they had reversed my initial check that was direct depositied of $574, and are also claiming my second weeks check to cover the expenses I owed their company. I was told if there were any questions she would be out of the office until Monday and to contact her then.

So two weeks work, approximately a total of 2000 miles total for two weeks as a whole, and no pay received plus a bill of money owed on top of it.

This company sure knows how to screw a family man who was trying to support his family.

I am seeking Legal action as I belive these are illegal practices by an employer.
