Two young men (around 20 years old) came to my 9th floor apartment floor selling magazines. They explained that each subscription bought was credited towards points they had to earn for scholarship money to pay for their first year of college. The boys claimed to be home schooled and in a program that brought kids together to become "socialized". I wrote each of them a check and they told me a way to cheat was to cancel my checks and that way they would still get half the points. A girl named Megan Goodman was supposed to call me within 3 business days to verify their credibility... Never called. The receipt had a phone and fax number, as well as web and street addresses, which were all FAKE. They cashed the checks and I am out $600. Whatever you do, DO NOT WRITE CHECKS FOR DOOR TO DOOR MAGAZINE SELLERS, IT IS A SCAM!!! I hope I am the last one that has to go through this.
