The return policy stated on large signs throughout the store is differant than the one stated on the receipt. The posted return policy indicates that if you are not satisfied with your purchase within 90 days you may return it for a full refund. It says nothing about deducting 30% if the box has been opened or if the item has been assembled. Who would keep an item in the unopened box for 90 days?
When they say unused they mean if you have taken it out of the box or put it together it is a used item and they will not give a full refund.
We called the customer center and explained our problem on an item we had purchased a week before. We had put it together and weren't sure if we could get it back into the three boxes it came in. We were told to bring it back assembled and if everything was there we would get a refund. When we got to the store we were told they considered used and deducted $114 from the refund.
They should state in their return policy that if you open the box the item will, in their opinion, be "used" and you won't get a full refund.
We were told by Keith that, in effect, IKEA does not give full refunds on returned items.
We had to return an item that was damaged when we bought it. They did replace that item but of course we were out the price of gas for returning it. When we foung out we were getting ripped off on the return of the other item we also returned the replaced bed. We were going to buy more furniture but this experience has told us not to purchase anything from IKEA.
I am reporting this to our Michigan Consumer Affairs department in the State Attorney General's office.
After this experience I would tell everyone not to shop at IKEA.
