My husband and I had our taxes done on February 10th at the Jackson Hewitt office on South Park Street in Carrollton. We have filed and received a small refund, and now have just received a letter on April 7th stating that we have to pay some mony back. The letter said for us to call their office.
We went by the office April 8th and they said that there was a problem with THEIR tax program. Now they say we owe a little over $100 back on state tax. This might not sound like much, but getting the notice 1 week before the deadline isn't alot of time to arrange finances. You are not the first step we have taken in this matter. We have gone through numerous numbers just to end up right back where we started. They have a "Golden Guarantee" that they say would have covered this mistake. However they also proclaim that anybody that has their taxes done at their offices has a "Basic Guarantee", which states that they will pay should there be any problems with their tax preparations. The associate said it was their mistake but there was nothing they could do. Another person blamed it on the state of Georgia for changing tax programs and then in midstream they changed back. So who is to blame?
My point:
* In our current economic "situation" we, like most people, are having hard enough times to make ends meet. We do not have extra funds just to give away at the blink of an eye. To be told that we now owe more taxes a week before the deadline is too short of a notice. You can miss a car payment or even a house payment, but miss paying taxes and you hit the penalties for penalties for the penalty of being penalized.
* How many other families will have to try to find the funds to pay for Jackson Hewitt's mistake, which they admit but will not back up their "Guarantee".
*There is so little that is still American these days, I guess that taking pride in your bussiness and what your customers think has been outsourced to China as well.instead of answers, the few humans we could talk to tried to pawn the blame and us to someone else.
I would just like who and where the problem is, and what good is a guarantee if it isn't honored.
