American Financial Solutions sent a letter stating I had won 100K from the second category of the Publisher's Clearing House and Compensation Draw Sweepstakes. It included "FINAL NOTICE" in red and my supposed entry number in red.
The letter states that they were contacted by the NORTH AMERICAN DIRECT SWEEPSTAKES to find winners who have not yet claimed their prize.
They sent a "check" for $4860.90 and said it was to cover the Non-Resident Govt. Service Tax (GST) and Insurance. It was also mailed in an envelope from Canada with no return address.
They said to deposit the check to pay for the $3560.59 to cover the tax/insurance. And to send it via moneygram, and to contact FRED JACKSON the supposed agent in Seattle, Washington to start the claiming process.
Nice, why would they send a check for more than the amount that I needed to pay? Smarty pants... RED FLAG!!!
It looks like there are others out there falling for this scam... What is being done?
