For three years me and my husband rented a house form Steve and Lynn Clagg in Huntington, WV. At first we signed a one year lease. The last two years we paid on a month to month basis. Our rent was 450.00 a month plus 450.00 deposit, of course they expected the money up front before we got the keys to the house.
During the time we lived there we done things like painting baseboards, painted the kitchen walls, foundation to the house, busted sewer line, walls around the bath tub ect. Of course she wasn't paying for the labor it was free. The house needed a lot of work.
Finally my husband got tired of doing free work for them, so he when things came up he told them he didn't have time to do the repair.By our third year we figured out we were being taken advantage of. During the summer of 2000 they decided to paint the house, which it was needed badly. They wanted my husband to do it, She told me that if he would we could have one months free rent plus take 200.00 off the next months rent. My husband was hesitant about it at first, but then agreed.
After he started painting she decided she wanted the awnings taken off the house. Taking the awnings off was a dangerous job. The ladder they got him wasn't long enouth and they were kind of heavy. Needless to say he finally finished the job.in November our rent was free, then came December and we were to deduct 200.00 from that month so we did.
After she got our rent check she tried to say that wasn't the deal, wer were to only have one months rent free. She finally agreed. That was her big misteak we were right. She has tried this on other people from what I have heard. We dedided we didn't want to rent from her anymore. January 31 was the last month we lived in the house.
We moved in with my parents so we could save the money to buy a house. It is July 5 and we still don't have our deposit back. The last time my husband talked to her she said she would have our money to us in ten days. That was months ago. She won't return his calls so he sent them ceritfied letters. I feel they are very dishonest people. All I want is my deposit back.
