Another marketing scam

Over the past several months I was working for a couple of companies at 3 Gill St. I think that there are several defining factors that make a company on the verge of being either legitimate or illegitimate. The deception and lies that were told to me just to keep me in the business is why I am posting today.

The term "dangling the carrot" is the method that these people use to get you to do something. If you decide to work for these people they will promise money, promotions, trips around the country, power, and most importantly your own business after the training program. Do not be deceived. There are people who do make it to management, however, what they do not tell you is that 1 out of 10 managers succeed. Manager DO NOT make 60-75K.in reality they make 35-40K.

The pay structure that they advertise is also deceptive. For the Home Depot campaign they tell you that as soon as you get a verification number you get paid. However, this is also untrue. You will get paid as soon as the person from US Home Services shows up at the door step of the potential sale and not until then. Therefore, if you impulse somebody into signing up, you will probably not get paid.

Another problem is that during the entire time that I was there, there were no health benefits. They advertise that they do have benefits but I literally had to make the owner contact an insurance agency to get benefits for those who needed them. This is not a quality that you should look for in a legitimate business.

If you are looking for a resume buffer. Do not go to this place because legitimate employers will look up your previous places of work and find tons of rip off reports on it. It basically red flags you for any future endeavors that you plan on making.

Finally, I seriously suggest that if you are thinking about finding a way into marketing, that you should steer clear of basically anywhere that is advertising "advanced and accelerated growth with managerial training." These are the trigger words that they use in all of their advertisements on craigslist, monster, career builder... Etc. There is no quick and easy way to make it to the top and what they are doing is preying on young graduates that think that it is possible to succeed quickly, when in actuality, you will be making them tons of money and gaining very little for yourself.

Take a step back and think before you are pressured into making your decision. They hire everybody that they take on a day of observation. And if you want to think about it, don't be scared to say so. They will try to pressure you into closing and saying yes that day, this is a sign of a very high turn over rate. Chances are, if you say "yes, " you won't last longer than a week.

If you are a recent college grad reading this entry, don't waste your time with this company or any other company that does event based marketing in the Boston area. They are below you and you didn't go to college to be a walking advertisement.
