False Advertising and even worse business practices.
First of all, the advertise positions of Entry-Level management and the like. Have you noticed how many adverts they put up on Monster and Workopolis? It's because they have an ungodly high turn-over rate (if you can call it that).
Now... The process by which you end up (or not) working for them.
Step 1 - you apply and wait for them to either email you, or call.
Step 2 - they bring you in for an "interview" - in reality this is a screening. They go about the screening as if they were a manager for a small retail store, scribbling crap all over your resume. They tell you they will call. If they do, chances are they will not leave a message if you ask them to.
Step 3 - they call you back for a 2nd interview, which is part interview, part "sales call". They take you out into the field and you shadow the other employee. You never sign any agreement to do this at any time, thus allowing them to avoid paying you for the time you spend shadowing. That's not a big deal as shadowing doesn't necessarily mean pay, however the current employee will bring you into the fray, effectively making you work for them, thus allowing them to get away with free work.
This is illegal by the way. They don't file tax papers, so the gov hasn't caught on yet.
At some point, they'll even say that they do this, because it works for other companies and why would they use another system?
Step 4 - They make the decision if they want to keep you and call you back.
If they do decide to keep you, the pay is utter crap for the work you have to do. They promise $500-700 a week [$24,000K/a] which is pretty dismal to begin with, but they pay barely $500. All in all, it is not worth working for these people. Ethical is not in their business plan.
If you have no problem with what I have said, then go work for them. Bring a chain-mail diving suit, cause you'll be swimming with sharks working for them.
