Liars, making up charges of services never ordered, false cancellation fees

On April I ordered Direct TV service. It was supposed to be a Verizon package: telephone, computer, and Direct TV for 99.00 plus tax monthly. After a few months of not being satisfied with their billing and service, I called Direct TV to cancel the service. They informed me that I was on a 2 year contract with them, and if I wanted to cancel I had to pay $250.00 as a penalty for early cancellation.

I was not informed of this when I called for service. I never signed a contract. They claimed that by accepting them, it was an automatic contract. I contacted channel 8 and also the Better Business Bureau. They worked with me and tried all they could to help me. But they could not get them to budge. My case number with the BBB is 1324464, complaint date on or about June.

About two months ago, my TV went completely off. I called Direct TV, to inform them that I had no picture. They tried for over an hour to fix it from their office, but could not and they decided to send a technician the following day. The technicians concluded that their box was defective and we needed a new box.

But my dissatisfaction still continued. I called to cancel effective 2/5/09 at midnight, and all seemed fine, the girl informed me that I owed only two months which came to $40.00 penalty, and another $50.00 for something else which at the moment I can't recall. Total of $90.00, okay.

Then I called Bright House and ordered their service, which started as of February 5th. TV, telephone, and computer.

Now I get a bill from Direct TV dated 2/08/09 in the amount of $530.16:
Previous balance of $59.30, current charges and fees of $50.28, adjustments and credits of $359.30 and taxes of $61.28. They claim that $420.00 is a fee for early cancellation.

When I called to find out why this fee for early cancellation, they claimed that because of the new box, that automatically put me on a new 18 month contract. I told the Directo TV rep that If I had been informed before the box was installed, I would have never accepted the box. I would not have allowed them to trap me again. They couldn't care less. They stated that if I went back to them, I would not have to pay any penalty.

Also this previous balance is ridiculous. All my bills were sent to the bank, and the bank paid all on time. Never have I had a previous owed balance on anyone.
