R1 Moving And Storage
All United Van Lines R1 Moving and Storage, where the consumer has no value but the "All Mighty Dollar" does. Santa Clara

We hired R1 in Nov. 2006 for our retirement move across country.

We had an experience such as another consumer of R1, sleazy, seedy looking employees almost running with our belongings, having to repeat our concerns to the "person in charge" but could not afford the time to fire and rehire another company.

We were charged for moving supplies and wrapping to insure our posessions would arrive in the same condition, the movers also helped themselves to the supplies we had already purchased (bubble wrap, tape, boxes and markers, even my calculator).

Trying to keep up with them in California was" like a dog chasing it's tail."

We were on the third story of an elevatored building, we insured the use of the elevator for the movers convience by securing the lock out key from the property management.

They carried our belonings out to the hallways, parking lot and were packing both in the apartment and parking lot. My husband and I tried to watch but the confusion and apparent speed was very intensional on the "person in charge's" part due to the fact he told us another "pick-up" had called him several times asking "why they were late."

The arrival of our belongings was a horror!

We secured the largest storage unit with access from both ends to ensure ease in unloading, checking and assembling our beloings upon arrival. The movers made this impossable to happen.

Upon delivery I was so stunned at the damage, missing items and the fact that their were only 2 workers to unload and unpack and there were 4 employees to pack.

I attempted to phone R1 but got no answer. I asked the movers to stack and let me check my items but the driver said "they unload and stack as they go."

I was alone and it was bitterly cold, beginning to snow, trying to check the inventory list as they called off the numbers and almost every number had to be repeated or I had to check it myself, this was all but impossable.

My husband arrived soon after the movers started and they was appalled at the furniture sitting out in the weather and the crass responses at our continued concern of the lack of care our possessions were recieving.

When the unloading was complete we we at odds with the driver who, when looking at my list of damaged, missing items and boxes began to scribble out numbers on our list and remarked, "Oh, I remember this one." I took back the list and was told by the driver to "call the company" he, who had "balked" at our taking pictures (we took them anyway) and would only let me write loss of our new dolly and furniture roller, purchased in California for our convience, "because there is no room on the paper.".

The contract stated that R1 would unpack, reassemble and set up upon reaching the final destination, this also did not happen.

The company also packed trash that was intentionally left and acknowledged for dumpster disposal in California again, by "the person in charge" adding extra weight and packing cost.

They even wrapped some of our belonings in the "trash" allocated for the dumpster.

Each trip to the storage unit ment more damage and loss.

Upon speaking to R1 and then reporting loss to their insurer we have been ignored for over 2 years.

R1 was sent requests from the BBB but refused to answer.

Thanks to being informed of this site I can warn others of this company.

Is R1 a member of the BBB?
