So much like the other simular reports from associated studio names. A model friend of mine was approached by a James asking if he (model) wanted photos done. My friend replied no but one of his photographer friends (me) was looking for work. He gave James my number and i received a call from James on Tuesday Decmber 2nd 2008.
He requested an interview that same day. (seemed a little odd to me) at the corner of Alma School road and Warner Road in Chandler Arizona. He said their office was near the Big Lots (cheap knock-off store) on that corner. I arrived to the area a little early and decided to burn some time by walking into the Big Lots and looking around.
As I walked in a woman at a desk with a cheap looking photo presentation handed me a flyer. And said "all the customers are getting this today" I didn't even look at it and handed it back to her replying "I am a photographer i don't need this, Thank you" She then asked if i was looking for work. I looked at the table and recognized the name "United Portrait Studios Company" and realized it was the same i was applying for.
I told her i had James number, and a little irritated i walked away. As the time got nearer the interview time i called James and told him i was there as i walked to my jeep and got my resume. I met James inside the Big Lots and had a VERY cheep looking application. He said come with me. I assumed we would be going to the studios office that he said was near by the Big Lots. DEFF NOT!
We walked across the parking lot into a CARL'S JUNIOR fast food restaurant and he sat with me for a moment and gave me the app and said he would be back in about 10 min. I filled it out and as i got to the bottom (typically where are the legal print is and it asks you to sign) the applications said "[Paste Legal Disclaimer Here]. I little set back from this whole situation i signed it and waited a little for James to return.
When he did he gave a lame attempt at interviewing me asking the typical questions like "tell me about a time where you were confronted with a problem" I answered and finished the interview. He told me that he was on the sales side of the company but would give the resume and application to the photographer manager.
I received a call the fallowing Saturday December 6th with a voice mail from a Tyrone asking me to call him back. That is where i am now with this seemingly BS ripoff. I will call Tyrone tomorrow Sunday December 7th and follow through with this to see if it the same guys that have been doing this all over the country. If they are god help them because I am not one to be taken advantage of they will not enjoy what i will have coming their way. I will post a comment in the next few days to inform you all of what i have learned!!!
