My story began with being late with on a couple of payments on our house. We were going through a multitude of family problems, my mother was sick and then died my brother was sick and moved in with us then died we had twin daughters that got on drugs that moved in with us that we tried to help and couldn't. Needless to say we were financially straped but when I got the money to make the payments Option One wouldn't accept them. They said we had to go into a repayment plan, which we did. We made three large payments for three months but in the mean time they went ahead and foreclosed on our house and sold it. They said they bought it back but then they lost the deed. So when we made the last payment in February 06' they said not to do anything until we heard from them. Well the next time we heard from them was in April and it was someone new and she said we had to do a remodification. We didn't understand why but she said we had to or loose the house so we did. And we had to pay another $3800.00 by August and when that was done we had paid about $6000.00 and our interest rate and house payments had doubled. We had been screwed. The whole purpose of a remodification is to make it easier to make your payments not harder. So I went in search of another loan company.in the mean time Option One sold itself to American Home Mortgage. When I contacted them about the whole mess they said we could do a new remodification. The next time I spoke to them they said they didn't do and that I needed to come up with $16,000.00 or loose the house. We lost the house in November. We bought that house 27 years ago for $54,000. And they said we owed them $94,000.00 after the new interest was added after the remodification and our payment went from 749.00 to 1549.00. They have the house for sale for $134,000. Now and I intend to send them a letter telling them they will be owing me the differnce for what it sells for and what they said we owed them for it. I believe that's the law. I checked with a lawyer. Getting them to pay it will be the hard part. The fraud they committed against us was making us go into a remodification agreement when we were already in a repayment agreement. I feel we have a good case here but who has the money to hire a litagation lawyer to take on a big firm like them? It's disgusting and disheartning what these big corporations can do to people who have worked most of their lives to have a home and have it ripped out from under them with no more thought than they would give to stepping on and ant.
