Ohio Events Group
Pyramid scheme, manipulation, reel you in, deceptive

I also replied to an enticing post on CareerBuilder.com... They were very pushy to set up an interview, and wanted me to start the next day. The night before the "day of 'o'" I was luckily informed of this rouse from a friend who also applied there and did some research. I went into the day just to get experience for myself and help others... I was fortunate enough to know not to take the position, and had doubts from the beginning. The company they moved from was in Madison Wisconsin and called MadDog promotions Inc. Here is my story:

Also ALERT: they also run another 'firm' out of the office called Frisco, watch out for this one too. It's run by a man by the name of Tim.

I got there and decided to go out on the job shadow from 9:30-6:30. We went to an "event" which was really just setting up a booth at a local Kmart and selling stuff like coloring books and flashlights for this charity CPEA. Basically they were the people you see in front of stores trying to get your attention that you run away from because you know they only want money. This, I now know is a good idea, once I found out the charity only gets 5% of the proceeds I felt awful.

I had to stay there all day and work with them and then she (my leader) told me about the pay scale. You aren't paid on salary at first like Lonnie (the president) claimed, actually you only get 35% of everything you sell daily, the president gets 30%, then a percentage goes to pay for the stuff that Lonnie buys for us to sell, and the CHARITY only gets 5%!!! Also they told me that I would be working 6 days a week not 5, and that for the next 6 months I would be doing the same thing I did today, which I did not want. Also, she said the positions went by levels, and first I would start at distribution for about a month, then for 5 months I would be a trainer, which means I would take people like me out to these pseudo events, and once I had gotten 5 people hired I could move up to assistant manager. No Thank you.

I told the leader that Lonnie that he misrepresented the job when he made it seem that I would be in the office doing PR, and promoting actual events like fund raising dinners and such. He also told me tis not a sales job and the charity sells itself. I said obviously not, or else I wouldn't have to get people's attention to come over and buy things from me.

Needless to say, I turned the job down immediately. And I left before they could make me go back into the building.
