In 2 I cut up all 5 of my credit cards, sent them back to companies w / letter telling them to close accounts, stop interest, etc. Because I had been unemployed for 6months, was living on $265 a month welfare, w / my son.
The only one I'm having problems with still is Direct Merchants. They continued to hurass me through the years.including a man yelling at me when I was on a pay for during my lunch hour. That was in 2002 during the 5 month job I had before my illness. I was in UC Davis and my local hospital on and off for two months with Staph Infection, Indocarditis, Bacterial Mengitis among other things. And was blind for two months in 2003.
But Direct Merchants didn't care. They didn't listen or do what I requested. They continued to charge fees, interest, etc. The man on the phone yelled at me the 11 minutes I had to talk before going back to work. He called me lazy, stupid. Told me I had to pay $1,000 that day or he would send the law after me. When he wouldn't give me the 2 minutes he said I could use of my 11 minutes and he continued to scream at me demanding money. I stupidly agreed to send it to him.
I gave him my bank information standing there at the pay phone. Trying not to cry. But instead of sending the $1,000 I didn't have I sent a money order for $200 by register mail. I have the post office signed receipt and who signed for it. I told them I wanted a receipt for the payment or I wouldn't be making any more payments. I never got any proof of my payment.
Fast forward to 2005. I was being hurassed big time again by them. I agreed to pay a monthly payment of more than half of my welfare check to them. And they agreed not to charge interest, fees, etc as long as I was paying. Well after 9 months of paying them on time every month, I checked my account balance and it was more than when I started paying them 9 months before.
So I went to Consumer Credit Counselors. They looked at my income, bills, and lack of money to live on. I told them I can't afford to turn the gas onto my heater because I have to pay Direct Merchants. They said I had no business paying them when I couldn't heat my home. And I should stop paying them and get the gas turned on. So that is what I did.
I wrote DM about why I wasn't going to be paying them anymore. And that was the last I heard till I got papers from a lawyer. So from then on Gordon and Wong Law Group has been after me for the money. But the problem is my balance with DM was never over my limit of $1,500 until I cut the card up and they added more fees and continued interest. They filled a judgment against me in 2005. If I hadn't tried to pay them twice over the years they would be off my report like the other 4 I cut up in 2001.
Than the lawyer keeps adding fees, interest, etc. I have even paid her through the years. Now it is up to $6,615.94. WOW THAT IS INTEREST.
I saw Consumer Credit Counselors again this past March. She called Amy Gordon, the lawyer, to ask if she would forget about the judgment since I'm on premanent disability now. Amy said no but she "would not take it off the report but she won't pursue me either".
I've written the lawyer every month since June asking her to remove it completely so I could get a new apartment. She never answered me till this month. She wrote back a form letter offering a settlement of $3,638.77 by 9/29/08 or $4,961.96 by 10/29/08. I don't have 49cents let alone $4,900.
I beleive and I'm not exaggerating, I believe I have paid the balance off and then some if you don't count the outrages additions the lawyer added or the ridiculous one DM added after I cut the cards up. I think I have even paid some of those too.
So I'm trying to get this straighten up and get it off my report. I would like to have the credit report I deserve not the one filled with lies made up by this illegaly ran company.
Can anyone help me please. I'm desreate. I need to get this done ASAP! Thank you.
