A Van Lines
Deceitful, Rude, Dishonest, Total Ripoff

On September 9 I received a call from James with A Van Lines Moving Company from a lead that they received from me inquiring about movers online. James proceeded to tell me that he could move my items to Orlando FL, where I currently live for $1400.00 and he emailed me a quote stating this as well. He further advised that he had a move that he was moving from Orlando to Texas so that would work fine for him.

I told him that I could not afford to pay over that amount at all. He had me recount what I had and based it off of that quote. I advised him that I could not recall all of the items that I had but if the price went over 1400.00 that I would not be able to afford the move. On September 10 the movers showed up to my home in McDonough, Georgia where I currently have a tenant residing and started to load my items.

They advised her that it would be extra for packing materials so she advised them to not load anything until she talked to me. She contacted me via phone and advised me of what was going on. I asked her to put him on the phone and that's when he told me that there would be an extra charge. I advised him that I could not pay anything extra so please just stop using any of their materials and empty what he had used. He advised me that they would. My tenant then advised me that they had someone else's items on the truck and they left 12 boxes and several other articles of my items at the residence in McDonough.

My husband called A Van Lines to discuss the situation and they advised him that the move is totaling 4300.00. I then called and spoke with James and he was belligerent and extremely rude. He said that I was acting like an "asshole" he would not let me get a word in edge wise. He hung up on me 4 times when I tried to call him to further discuss the matter. His response was that I was over the items and that we had 15,000 pounds worth of items on their truck. I advised him that was incorrect because there was someone else's items on the truck when they got to my home and there was no way our things could possibly weigh 15,000 ibs.

After doing some research, I found out that the weight of 15,000 ibs. Is equivalent to a 5 bedroom house. My townhome is 3 bedrooms. James advised me that I would need to speak with accounting but would not transfer me to them.in addition to that, when I called James back, I advised him that one of his employees hung up on me and he advised me "No, that was me that hung up on you and I am part owner of the business". He refused to speak to me at that point. Later that evening I received a call from a man who claimed that his name was Mr. Paz and he was the owner. He asked me what I wanted him to do. I advised him of the problem and he stated that he did not want to hear that he wanted to know what I wanted to do.

I advised him that under no circumstances could I pay more than the $1400.00 that was quoted to me and do not send my items to Florida. I further advised that his representative James was very misleading in his solicitation. He went back and forth and advised me that he would release my things for $950.00. I advised Mr. Paz that I did not owe him $950.00, I advised him that legally, I owed him for a local move which took three hours. His rate is listed at $95.00 per hour (please see attached document as I had my mother to call and get an estimate for proof). He instantly up-charged my rate to $150.00 I told him that still was not acceptable. He lowered the price to $800.00 and then to $700.00.By this time I was so frustrated and I just wanted my things and I advised him that he could charge me th rate for loading and unloading tht truck.

On 9/12/08, my cousin went to retrieve our belongings as I am in the state of Florida currently. He paid $700.00 to get my belongings of which I have attached the receipt. Upon his arrival, he noticed that my belongings were still on the truck and had not been taken off as was stated to me. This company is bad for business. They inflate their prices, are dishonest, and take advantage of consumers who are uneducated in the moving business (which I am sure are more than half of their customers). I am positive that this has happened before me and I am trying to prevent this from happening to people after me.

I am asking that a full investigation be launched against this company. It is the mover's responsibility to educate their customer on the move. I have no problem paying for services rendered but when the company that provided the service is being totally dishonest, that's where I have a problem. Legally, my move according to the local move estimate should have been $380.00 for three hours of moving
