R1 Moving & Storage are, Thiefs and Scam Artists! Ripoff

On or about September 20 I contracted R1 Moving and Storage to move my items from California to Florida. At the time of my conversation my quote was 800.00 for a one bedroom and garage move. I agreed to the amount quoted and arranged for R1 Moving and Storage to move my items from my storage facility in CA to my house in Weston, FL. My original move date was September 30 at 8:00AM, at 9:00AM the movers still did not show up, so I contacted their dispatch who put me in contact with the mover (Rob) he informed me that he had to do another move and wanted to conduct my move on September 31 at 8:00AM. I advised him that I would make arrangements to meet him at my storage facility on September 31 at 8:00AM.

On September 31 at 12:00PM, I contacted Rob to find out when he will be arriving to move my items. He informed me that he was doing another move, I advised him that he was a no show the other day and I had to change my schedule and I needed this to be done today. Within 1 hour he showed up to the storage facility.

When Rob arrived, he immediately advised that I would need to pay the deposit before they started moving my items. I paid $500.00 for the deposit and 300.00 was due when they completed the move to FL in two weeks.

Prior to R1 Moving and Storage delivering my items to FL, I was advised that my items weighed more than they thought, Rob advised that the extra weight contributed to my tool box and tools and that the new charge will be $1,764.00. When I was advised my items were supposedly already in transit and I would need to pay 1,264.00 opposed to the 300.00 when the items are delivered.

My items arrived in FL on October 22 at which time it was determined that my tool box, tools and another box of dishes were left in Los Angeles by accident and that it would be delivered the following week. The delivery driver (Justin) demanded the full $1,2464.00 prior to unloading the truck and advised me that I would need to contact Rob in regards to my tool box, tools and box of dishes.

On October 22, I immediately contacted Rob and was advised that the tool box, tools and dishes were in transit to FL and that they will be delivered next week and that I should wait for the driver to call me. After the week passed, I did not receive a call so I contacted Rob and was advised that my items was accidentally not placed on the truck and that I need to wait another two weeks for the items. Two weeks passed and I received no calls so I contacted Rob, who said that he will call me back (never received a call back) I began calling everyday to find out the status of my missing items to no avail.

I then started to deal with the corporate office (Arti) who said she will look into the matter and that she will call me back. After two days, I did not receive a call so I contacted Arti again and was advised that she is still looking into the problem and will call me back. Once again I received no call so I began contacting them every day to no avail. Finally on December 11 Arti advised that they located my items in the LA warehouse and was in the process of having them shipped to their San Jose office then they will ship it to me. I advised her that I needed to have the items by December 22 as I will be out of town from December 23 to January 11. On December 12 I once again contacted Arti who advised me that they will send my items via UPS to me and gave me the tracking numbers. The items were scheduled to be delivered on December 29 so I made arrangements with my sister-in-law to be at the house for the delivery. My items finally arrived on December 29.

Upon my return on January 11 I was finally able to review the items and found that my tool box was taken out of the original packaging and that the drawers were pried open and several drawers were broken and all of my tools were stolen. I also found items in the tool box that were not mine. Secondly my box of dishes were all broken it appears that the box was deliberately dropped and kicked around In addition, I also received someone else's box of broken dishes.

I immediately contacted Arti on January 11, and she advised that she would call me back with two hours (I never received a call back) I contacted R1 Moving later in the evening and was advised that Arti was busy and she will call me back, As of January 12 I still have not received a call back.

After numerous phone calls to R1 Moving and Storage and threats to seek legal remedies I was finally able to get my items shipped to me just to find out that they stole from me and blatantly damaged my items.

In addition, customer service is non existent with this company. I am currently planning to settle this legally as well as file reports to the BBB and the DA of San Jose, hopefully if enough people complain to the DA's office a Class Action Law Suit may be in order for their contract fraud, dishonesty and theft that is taking place within their organization.
I am seeking reimbursement for my damaged tool cart (now unusable), lost tools, and broken dishes.

I have been going going back and forth with R1 Moving and Storage in regards to the originally missing tool cart, tools and dishes for the past three months. Upon receipt of the missing items, I found my tool box to be completely destroyed, 75% of my tools missing and 99% of my dishes broken.

Prior to delivery I was informed by Rob that my shipment would cost extra due to my tool cart, tools and dishes. He further informed me that original quote of 800.00 was based on a weight of 1,000 lbs and that the tool box, tools and dishes weighed an additional 1,205 lbs.

Upon the original delivery date of 10/22/06, I was informed by Justin that my tool box, tools and box of dishes were accidentally not placed on the truck and that I would need to contact Rob in Los Angeles to coordinate delivery.

After three months of the run around with Rob and the corporate office of R1 Moving and Storage I finally was able to get my missing items shipped to me just to find my tool chest damaged beyond repair, 75% of my tools missing and 99% of my dishes broken.

As the pictures indicate, it appears that my tool cart, tools and dishes fell of a truck! Resulting in approximately $2,500.00 in damages to replace everything.
