I was at work and my cell phone rang, so I answered it. Some lady is on the other line "Congratulations, you have been selected to win a free no strings attached $500 shopping spree. I know what you are thinking... Too good to be true, but i promise you it's not." BULL CRAP! Now, I am only 18, so yes I am naive, and yes I totally fell for it.
They proceeded to tell me how this is a no gimmicks, free shopping spree. They said that they had gotten my information from my good standing with credit card companies. (dumb again... I'm 18, all I have is a debit/credit card) They then offered me a deal on magazines. They offered allure, cosmo girl, pretty much magazines that I would be interested in.
She also told me that they don't want to send them to me if I don't want them, so they'll send me a larger list so that I can choose exactly which magazines I want to receive for 5 YEARS (another lie) for only $3.95 a month. I thought... Wow that's cheap.
Stupidly I thought that sounded pretty good, $500 shopping spree and only pay $3.95 a month for 5 years to get like 7 different magazines. She took my phone number and address and of course credit card number. (also wanted my social security number for "informational purposes." I told her NO WAY) She said that's fine, when you get more comfortable with the company you can add it on.
So then they had me listen to these questions where they recorded my answers (red flag should have gone off, but I am too trusting and both ladies were so nice and sounded so sincere) They asked my name and number and all of that fun stuff and then asked what my payments would be (to help you out they just charge you $49.90 for like 13 months instead of $3.95 for 5 years.)
The more I thought about it once it was over, the more I found creepy about it. But I didn't have a number to call back! So I waited for my information in the mail. I took that number and called in to cancel..."It has not yet been processed, so we can't cancel it yet, you will have to call back tomorrow." So I did, but by then they had already charged my account the set-up fee of $5.95 AND my first monthly payment of $49.90. So when I called to cancel they were very nice and polite, but the next month... I got charged again! Before I could call and throw my fit they refunded it... So I thought "oh just a glitch, they fixed it." Then September 1st... ANOTHER STUPID CHARGE.
Now I was pissed... I called in, talked to another very nice woman who told me it showed that my account had been canceled and she had no idea why my account had been charged but that it would be refunded immediately and she apologized and everything. So i waited and waited, today is September 12th and still NO REFUND. So i called back after I saw yesterday that I had been charged $34.95. (the description looked funny so I looked back and it matched the description of my $5.95 set up fee.)
So I called AGAIN... The girl now said she has no idea why I was charged before, and that she has NO record of me being charged the $34.95. So she told me to fax her my account statement and she could take a look at it. I called her to make sure she got it (blacked out EVERY charge that wasn't from them) and when I got ahold of her she told me the $34.95 charge was not from them (ya right!!!) and that the refund for the charge from the first could take up to 30 days... Now when I had called after I got the charge on the 1st, I was told it would take 5-7 business days. Yet I still havent receieved it.
I am SOOO pissed off. I did not sign up for that, and when I canceled my account they told me I couldn't get back the $5.95 set up fee or first $49.90 charge, but that I would not be charged anymore... Obviously they lied, because i have been charged 3 more times and am still waiting on my refund for the ones they actually will admit are theirs. Do not ever sign up for anything with mountain area communication. Such a scam and rip off. How could you work for a company that does this to people. They should be ashamed of themselves!
