We went to this rental agency, which we found in a classifieds weekly called "El Clasificado." for help in obtaining a rental. The classified read (in Spanish) "PARAMOUNT-3 BEDROOMS $1150,2 bedrooms $875,1 bedroom $675, other homes available (562) 861-6709."
We called for the 2 bedroom $875 and were told that it had been rented, but that they had one for $900, with only a $200 down payment in the city of Paramount. So my wife and I went in to fill-out an application.
They told us that they had the house ready, that it would be set aside for us and that the owner would be calling us that SAME early evening, so that we may go see it. My wife signed a contract (which is fairly illegible as it turns out) and told to pay $150 to reserve the property. They also gave us a listing of other properties in case we didn't like the one they "set aside" for us. Sounded like a good deal. We never received a call.
When talking about it at work, my wife told a co-worker that we had found a place, that it was fairly cheap and were waiting for the phone call. Here co-worker told her "I hope you didn't go to Rentals Express. Turns out, they have scammed a LOT of people with the same promise and NEVER deliver. They target non-english speaking people mainly.
After hearing this, my wife called the office the very next day and explained to them what she had learned. She was given a number for the owner, allegedly, Jose (no last name) (323) 517-7301. We called that number several times that same day and never had an answer. I tried calling that same number the very next day and it was no longer in service.
It is now day 7 and still, no property, no call from the agency, the owner or anybody for that matter. We need help with getting our money back and/or filing a lawsuit against this company.
